Meet Barry Pope
Barry Pope was destined for baseball greatness – or so it seemed. After high school graduation in Mississippi, he was signed by the Seattle Mariners with hopes of a legendary major league baseball career laying tantalizingly within reach. However, a decade traversing many minor league and major league teams as injuries took their toll left Barry’s dreams of stardom unrealized.
In his late thirties, Barry settled in Naples, Florida, hoping to rediscover the joy that first sparked his passion. Despite flashes of fame, wealth and prestige across a 10-year career, a lingering sense of unfulfillment shadowed Barry’s optimism. Though his body betrayed his aspirations, Barry’s heart remained on the field coaching the next generation of Little Leaguers. Off the field, he built an unremarkable yet peaceful life, finding simple pleasures in solitude, nature and memories of simpler times.
However, Barry discovers that some dreams demand rebirth as second chances emerge when we least expect them. An unlikely rescue dog named Skipper recruits the retired player into an ecological mystery threatening their Florida town. Despite the daunting odds, Barry taps into long-dormant wells of courage and relearns the meaning of teamwork alongside equally weathered yet steadfast new friends. In the process, Barry inches towards reconciliation between who he was, who he is and who he’s still becoming.
